This spot is universal enough for many occasions, and has a great patio for al fresco dining, too. The pancetta wrapped around the quail is a smoky complement that doesn’t overpower, the cappellacci is a sweet pasta dish that has a savory earthiness a la mushrooms and thyme, and the pastas themselves are expectedly superb given his stints at Del Posto, Campanile and Mozza. The team came together to open up Everson Royce Bar in the arts district with the goal of opening up Hippo in Highland Park in the near future. The food consists of well-balanced dishes that can be shared or ordered solo. It’s nice enough to come off as chic, but it’s Highland Park, so you can still get away with being very casual. One of those crudos is a fantastic ceviche served with housemade tortilla chips. On a closer look, the menu is way more interesting than it seems - and for a semi-upscale restaurant, also pretty affordable. There’s no doubt that HiPPO is a tremendous addition to Highland Park. But it’s worth remembering that pendant lights and walls painted with flowers look nice, and almost everyone likes to eat crudos and pasta. And if you’ve eaten anywhere new in LA recently, the menu of crudos, pastas, and meats cooked on a grill will look very familiar. All orders are custom made and most ship worldwide within 24 hours. But, as any stay in an even slightly-fancy hotel will tell you, these inside-only coats improve whatever time you spend in them. Regular towels work just fine, and if you want to hang out on the couch, that’s why sweatpants were invented.
